British Council GREAT Scholarship January 2026

The British Council GREAT Scholarship, in partnership with the University of Kent, offers £10,000 tuition awards to exceptional students from France and India starting their taught master’s programs in January 2026. Jointly funded by the UK Government’s GREAT Britain campaign, the British Council, and the University of Kent, this scholarship supports talented individuals eager to pursue academic excellence and promote UK higher education globally.

Eligibility Criteria for British Council GREAT Scholarship January 2026

To be eligible for a scholarship, you must:

  1. Be a French passport holder and live in France and be assessed as an overseas fee payer, or be an Indian passport holder and live in India and be assessed as an overseas fee payer;
  2. Have received a conditional offer for a full-time course at one of our UK campuses and have accepted this before the deadline date of 21 November 2025;
  3. Have submitted an expression of interest for the GREAT scholarship (please see below for full details)
  4. Be starting your course in January 2026.
  5. Be active in the field with work experience or proven interest in the subject area;
  6. Be willing to embody the UK Higher Education experience, by attending lectures and tutorials and engaging with extracurricular activities, and act as an ambassador for UK Higher Education by promoting the value of studying at a UK HEI.
  7. Be willing to establish an engagement with the UK as a scholar, through personal and academic fulfillment.
  8. Represent the high standards of the GREAT brand by becoming an advocate for scholarships; and
  9. Be willing to attend a networking event of all UK-based GREAT scholars, to discuss experiences and capture perceptions of studying in the UK.

This scholarship is for students beginning their degrees in January 2026 only

Please note that the GREAT scholarship cannot be awarded in conjunction with any other scholarship.

Applicants who have applied for distance learning programmes are not eligible.

Applicants who have applied for a PCert or PDip programme are not eligible.

Applicants who have applied for a two year course, including those with a year in industry or integrated masters are not eligible.

Applications for the British Council GREAT scholarship should be made via your applicant portal. This is an expression of interest – no essay is required. You will only be able to do this once you have received an offer for your programme from the University of Kent. If you haven't applied to Kent yet, submit your application now.
