The New York Times Fellowship is a one-year work program aimed at cultivating the next generation of journalists. The fellowship represents a unique opportunity to do great journalism for The Times. It incorporates speakers, feedback and training opportunities. The program’s goal is to benefit not only the participants and The Times but also other newsrooms. We expect most of our fellows will graduate to positions around the country and world. The program incorporates a range of reporters, editors, and visual journalists.

Eligibility Criteria for The New York Times Fellowship 2026/2027

Applicants are to meet the following criteria:

  1. Applicants must have some journalism experience and be early in their careers.
  2. Applicants should ideally be recent college graduates or have limited paid, professional journalism experience (less than five years).
  3. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States or the United Kingdom, depending on the office location.
  4. Applicants interested in positions in London must have authorization to work in the United Kingdom.
  5. New work visas will not be sponsored; however, those with an existing or extendable visa (e.g., Optional Practical Training) may be considered.
