Eligibility Criteria for WWF Russell E. Train Fellowships (2025-2026)

Applicants must meet all of the following criteria:

  1. Must be a national of an eligible country.
  2. Must have at least two years of conservation-related work, research, or academic experience.
  3. Must have an existing affiliation with a university or college in an eligible country, and demonstrate collaboration or strategic partnerships with national or regional institutions.
  4. Priority will be given to applicants affiliated with underserved universities.
  5. Must show a strong commitment to working in academia in an eligible country, including mentorship of early-career conservation leaders or scientists.
  6. Must be enrolled in or admitted to a PhD program, either in-country or internationally.
  7. Must plan to begin studies no later than January 2027.
  8. WWF employees, consultants, or previous EFN grant recipients must contact EFN before applying to confirm eligibility.
  9. Must submit all required application documents by the deadline: December 18, 2025 at 11:59 PM US Eastern Time.
