Eligibility Criteria for CCCU PhD scholarship in Energy Engineering 2026

1. You must hold a first-class or upper second-class (2:1) undergraduate degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, energy engineering, materials science, environmental engineering, or a closely related discipline.

2. A relevant Master’s degree (or equivalent research experience) is highly desirable, particularly with a focus on energy, sustainability, or materials.

3. You must have demonstrated research experience in one or more of the following areas: biochar, nanomaterials, pyrolysis, catalysis, hydrogen production, carbon capture, or life cycle assessment.

4. Familiarity with laboratory techniques such as BET, XRD, TGA, FTIR, SEM, or related material characterization tools is preferred.

5. You must have strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce high-quality scientific writing.

6. All non-native speakers of English must provide proof of English language proficiency (e.g., IELTS 6.5 overall with no component below 6.0, or equivalent).

7. The successful applicant will be expected to undertake up to 150 hours of teaching-related activity during the second and third years of the PhD.

8. You must have applied for both a place on the PhD programme and a scholarship by the scholarship application deadline.

9. You must be available to begin their studies on [1 January 2026] on a full-time basis.

10. You must live in the UK during their studies, within commutable distance to campus.

You will be required to upload:

  1. Two references
  2. Your completed research proposal form
  3. A Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  4. Evidence of your qualifications
  5. A pass in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) if required.


Benefits of CCCU PhD scholarship in Energy Engineering 2026

  2. a tuition fee waiver for three years
  3. an annual expense allowance of £500.
