Eligibility Criteria for Keele University Care Leavers' and Estranged Students' bursary 2025

To be eligible, applicants must:

  1. Be a UK (‘home’) student
  2. Be under 25 at the start of their course
  3. Be enrolled in an undergraduate or postgraduate taught Master’s course at Keele (starting from September 2018 onward)
  4. AND meet one of the following:
  5. Spent at least 13 weeks in care (e.g., foster care, children's home) since age 14 and were in care on their 16th birthday
  6. Were privately fostered or under a Special Guardianship Order
  7. Be assessed as estranged by Student Finance England or confirmed by a qualified professional

Note:

  1. Part-time students receive a pro-rata award
  2. Postgraduate Certificate/Diploma and fully online courses are not eligible
  3. Students on apprenticeships or Harper & Keele Veterinary programmes are also ineligible



Benefits of Keele University Care Leavers' and Estranged Students' bursary 2025

  1. £1,000 per year cash bursary
  2. £500 graduation award in final year
  3. Can be combined with the Access & Success Fund

How to Apply

Students must submit evidence of eligibility:

  1. Care leavers: a letter or confirmation from a social worker or local authority professional
  2. Estranged students:
  3. Evidence from a professional (e.g., teacher, social worker) confirming estrangement
  4. Confirmation of independent status from Student Finance
  5. Must reconfirm each year to continue receiving the bursary
