Eligibility Criteria for Loran Scholars Award 2026

For high school students:

  1. Be entering university for the first time in September 2026 at any of the partner universities
  2. Present a minimum cumulative average of 85%.
  3. Hold Canadian citizenship or permanent resident status.
  4. Be born between January 1, 2004 and September 1, 2010.

For CEGEP Students:

  1. Be in your last year of CEGEP before entering university studies.
  2. Be entering university for the first time in September 2026.
  3. Present an R score equal to or higher than 29.
  4. Hold Canadian citizenship or permanent resident status.
  5. Be born between January 1, 2004 and September 1, 2010.

  3. Start your application
  4. Begin your online application at apply.loranscholar.ca.
  5. You will be asked to upload a PDF version of your transcript or marks summary (report cards are not accepted).
  6. Confirm your referee
  7. While working on your application, determine who will serve as your referee. Your referee may be a teacher, another faculty member at your school, or whomever else you feel can speak to your activities and qualifications for the award. This person may not be a friend or family member. Connect with that person and confirm their interest and availability. Request their preferred contact details and clearly communicate the request and deadline to them.
  8. Submit your application and ensure your referee completes their recommendation
  9. Complete your application, review its contents, and submit it.
  10. Note: your referee will be able to complete and submit their reference while you work on your application. As the applicant, you will complete the application, review its contents, and submit it. When you enter your referee’s contact information, email instructions will be sent automatically to them asking them to sign in online and fill out the reference form. The earlier you enter their contact information in your application, the more time your referee will have to complete the request. Your referee will need to submit a short (max 250 word) recommendation before the application deadline for your application to be considered complete and it is your responsibility to ensure this is done.

  12. Once you have submitted your application, you can log back into the system to view the progress of your reference form.
