MasterCard Foundation Scholarships at University of Toronto 2026

The University of Toronto, in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation, invites applications for the 2026–2027 Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) Scholarships at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health. This fully funded doctoral scholarship is available to talented students from Sub-Saharan Africa who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership, and a commitment to returning home to contribute to Africa’s growth.

The scholarship covers full tuition, travel, housing, books, and living expenses, along with mentorship, orientation, and academic support. Up to 3 awards will be granted for the 2026–2027 academic year.

Applicants must have graduated from an Africa Health Collaborative partner university and be admissible to the Doctor of Public Health program at the University of Toronto.

Eligibility Criteria for MasterCard Foundation Scholarships at University of Toronto 2026

Applicants MUST meet the following five eligibility criteria:

1. Be a citizen and currently reside in a Sub-Saharan African country.
2. Have graduated from a partner institution of the Africa Health Collaborative (listed here) and have not yet started graduate studies at the doctoral level.
3. Demonstrate academic excellence and leadership qualities during his/her undergraduate and master’s years.
4. Be academically admissible to the sponsored graduate program listed above.
5. Demonstrate a desire and commitment to return home for the last two years of the program to contribute to the ongoing economic growth and social development in Africa.

How to Apply

Step One

Prospective applicants must first consult the admission requirements for the Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) program of study. If you meet the academic requirements of this program, please follow through to step two.

Step Two

Register and attend one of the three virtual info sessions and the (optional) Q&A session. Please note that to be eligible for the Mastercard Foundation Doctor of Public Health Scholarship and have your application considered, attendance at one (1) information session is mandatory:

Step Three

Complete the Mastercard Foundation Doctoral Scholarship application. The link to the application form will be shared at the upcoming info sessions. Deadline for submission of the completed application is October 10, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. EST (Toronto time). If your application for the Mastercard Foundation scholarship meets all criteria and is approved by the Scholarship Admission Committee, you will receive an email to move forward to step three. These notifications to successful applicants will be made by November 1, 2025.

Step Four

If you are shortlisted for the Mastercard Foundation Doctoral Scholarship, you will be invited to complete a program application to the Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) program from the University of Toronto, Dalla Lana School of Public Health, which is due by November 22, 2025. The Dalla Lana School of Public Health will inform you as to the specific requirements of their department and provide you with subsequent dates for the submission of supplementary information. This is an online process that will require you to upload documents to your application. Please follow the instructions once you receive them.
