This scholarship is supported by Emeritus Professor Gajendra Verma of The University of Manchester. It was established in recognition of Dr Kanka Mallick’s commitment to improving inclusivity by offering much-needed financial assistance to PCGE students.

Eligibility Criteria for The Kanka Mallick Award for Teacher Training at MMU 2025-2026

You must:

  1. Hold a firm offer to study a new full-time course in the 2025/26 academic year, excluding distance learning, in a PGCE.
  2. Be a UK student - English, Scottish, Welsh or Northern Irish—paying the standard full-time fees, and have a UK Student Support Number.
  3. Pay for your course yourself, including through a student loan or a payment from your parents. Your course fees must not be paid by a business, charity or other organisation. You must not be getting a teacher training bursary.
  4. Have a household income of £25,000 or less. We’ll check this against your Student Finance application. Please contact us if you will not be applying to Student Finance for a maintenance loan.
