TWAS-UNESCO Associateship Scheme 2025

The TWAS-UNESCO Associateship Scheme enables qualified researchers from developing countries to collaborate with centres of excellence in the Global South. Appointed associates receive a three-year term, with up to two research visits of 2–3 months each. TWAS covers travel costs and provides a monthly subsistence allowance of up to USD 300, while host institutions provide accommodation, meals, and research facilities.

The programme supports scientific collaboration, counters brain drain, and prioritizes candidates from isolated institutions and women researchers. Nearly 300 institutions participate across developing countries.

Eligibility Criteria for TWAS-UNESCO Associateship Scheme 2025

Applicants must:

  1. Hold a PhD or equivalent
  2. Be a national of a developing country in the South
  3. Show research merit
  4. Provide CV (max 4 pages), publication list, PhD certificate
  5. Submit supporting documents (passport, recommendation letters, Head of Institution statement, invitation letter from host center).

Women and researchers from isolated institutions are encouraged to apply.
