The Workers Health & Safety Centre (WHSC) offers annual student scholarships to support graduating Ontario high school students pursuing post-secondary education. The scholarships are designed to raise awareness about occupational health and safety among young people entering the workforce.

Eligibility Criteria for Workers Health & Safety Centre (WHSC) Student Scholarships 2025

  1. Must be a graduating student from an Ontario high school in 2025
  2. Must be planning to enroll in a post-secondary institution
  3. Must submit a creative project (video, poster, or essay) on an occupational health and safety topic
  4. Selection Process

    1. Scholarship is awarded based on:
    2. Quality and depth of the submitted work (video, poster, or essay)
    3. Demonstrated understanding of occupational health and safety
    4. Evidence of volunteerism and community involvement
    5. Personal profile and a letter of recommendation from a teacher, educator, or community leader

    Application Documents

    1. Completed 2025 WHSC Scholarship Application Form
    2. A video, poster, or essay exploring an occupational health and safety topic
    3. A profile of volunteer/community work
    4. A letter of recommendation from a teacher or community representative
    5. Optional: Additional evidence supporting community or leadership activities

Benefits of Workers Health & Safety Centre (WHSC) Student Scholarships 2025

  1. Top Award: $6,000 (Clifford Pilkey Memorial Scholarship)
  2. Second Place: $4,000 (Fred Upshaw Memorial Scholarship)
  3. Up to Two Additional Winners per Category: $2,000 each
  4. (Categories include video, poster, or essay)

How to Apply

  1. Application* form in PDF format.
  2. Description of your volunteer activities showing how you are helping to improve the lived experiences of your fellow students and/or community members in PDF or Word format (max. 400 words)
  3. Letter of recommendation in PDF or Word format.
  4. Depending on your submission:
  5. video submission uploaded to WeTransfer (https://wetransfer.com) — email to swarden@whsc.on.ca. u attach your essay to the email,
  6. or if you are submitting a poster, you can attach it to the email or mail a hard copy of your poster and state in the email that you have posted it.
