Established through the Vancouver Foundation, the Black Feather Fund Entrance Scholarship honors the resilience of Indigenous youth in British Columbia. This award supports Indigenous students entering NVIT full-time in a post-secondary program, encouraging academic growth and community engagement as part of their educational journey.

Eligibility Criteria for Black Feather Fund Entrance Scholarship at NVIT 2025

New Applicants must:

  1. Be Indigenous (proof required via status card, Métis card, or official letter)
  2. Be enrolled full-time in an eligible post-secondary NVIT program (minimum 80% course load)
  3. Have completed secondary school with a minimum 65% (C+) GPA over the last 2 years
  4. Show extracurricular involvement in both school and community
  5. Submit a 500-word essay on their career plans

Renewal Applicants must:

  1. Have received the scholarship the previous year
  2. Be enrolled full-time at NVIT (minimum 80% course load)
  3. Have a minimum 65% GPA from their most recent year at NVIT

Applicants will be selected based on:

  1. Academic performance (minimum 65% GPA)
  2. Strength of community and school involvement
  3. Demonstrated leadership and service
  4. Clarity and sincerity in the career plan essay
  5. Completeness and quality of references

Application Documents

For New Applicants:

  1. Completed application form
  2. Proof of Indigenous ancestry
  3. Official secondary school transcripts (last 2 years)
  4. Two reference letters:
  5. One from a school instructor
  6. One from a community member
  7. A 500-word typed essay titled “Future Career Plan”
  8. NVIT registration statement showing full-time enrollment

For Renewal Applicants:

  1. Completed application form
  2. NVIT transcript showing 65%+ GPA
  3. Updated NVIT registration statement


Benefits of Black Feather Fund Entrance Scholarship at NVIT 2025

  1. $1,000 CAD awarded to two (2) incoming Indigenous students
  2. Scholarship is renewable for an additional $1,000 in the second year, contingent on academic performance
