UHEW Scholarships 2025

The Union of Health and Environment Workers (UHEW) offers five annual scholarships to support post-secondary education and skills training for union members and their dependents. These $3,000 awards recognize academic achievement, career development, equity, and human rights advancement in Canada.

Eligibility Criteria for UHEW Scholarships 2025

SCHOLASTIC SCHOLARSHIPS: THE TONY TILLEY SCHOLARSHIP AND THE MARY STEWART SCHOLARSHIP

1. These scholarships are offered to dependents of UHEW members in good standing as of August 21st of the calendar year who intend to attend a university of recognized standing or a recognized institute of higher learning for any academic year on a full-time basis.
2. Submit a full transcript of your grades from your most recent academic year (i.e., high school or last year of post-secondary studies, as applicable).
3. The successful applicant will be required to submit proof of registration and acceptance at a university or a recognized institute of higher learning.
4. A statement of the proposed budget.
5. A statement pertaining to your education and career plans.
6. A 500-word essay on the UHEW selected topic will be used as part of the selection process.

APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM SCHOLARSHIP

1. This scholarship is offered to dependents of UHEW members in good standing as of August 21st of the calendar year who intend to enter into an apprenticeship program at a recognized institute on a full-time basis.
2. Submit a full transcript of your grades from your most recent academic year (i.e. high school or last year of post-secondary studies, as applicable).
3. The successful applicant will be required to submit proof of registration and acceptance at a recognized apprenticeship institute.
4. A statement of the proposed budget.
5. A statement pertaining to your apprenticeship program and career plans.
6. A 500-word essay on the UHEW selected topic will be used as part of the selection process.

SCHOLARSHIP FOR MEMBER RETURNING TO SCHOOL ON A FULL-TIME BASIS

1. This scholarship is offered to a UHEW member in good standing returning to a university or a recognized institute of higher learning on a full-time basis to continue their education.
2. The successful applicant will be required to submit proof of registration and acceptance at a university or a recognized institute of higher learning.
3. A statement of the proposed budget.
4. A statement pertaining to your College Program and career plans.
5. A 500-word essay on the UHEW selected topic will be used as part of the selection process.

HUMAN RIGHTS SCHOLARSHIP

1. This scholarship is offered to dependents of UHEW members in good standing as of August 21st of the calendar year, who intend to attend a university of recognized standing or a recognized institute of higher learning for any academic year on a full-time basis.
2. Submit a full transcript of your grades from your most recent academic year (i.e. high school or last year of post-secondary studies, as applicable).

What roles do the unions play in supporting Indigenous Persons in Canada with measures as identified in the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Report.
